Miller Ellis Photography bio picture
  • We are Miller Ellis

    We are Wedding Photographers, Newborn Photographers, we are everything Photographers.

    We love babies! We love couples too. Come to think of it, we love just about anyone who wants to come get silly, gorgeous, serious or playful for our cameras.

    Most of all, we like to bring out the best in our clients. Whether that means dancing the macarena with car keys in hand to make your baby laugh at us or going on a field trip to get the best lighting and scenery for your engagement shot, romantic and dreamy or funky, edgy and hip, we’ll do it.

    What’s more, we’ll have a great time doing it too.

    Here’s our secret: We’ve been friends for more than 15 years – so long that we finish each other’s sentences. As it is in most great partnerships too, our skill sets are different but we are of the same mind.

    Our number one goal is to make your photo shoot experience relaxed, fun and enjoyable.

Mike + Kim {Barrie Southshore Wedding}

I met Kim in college. Way back when (we’re old – well not that old).  But it’s been a while since I’d heard from her or run into her. Imagine my surprise when I check my personal email and have a note from Kim that says after test driving mike for 15 years, they’ve finally decided to get married. While looking for a photographer in the Barrie area she recognized me. Funny how things work out! I was so excited and honoured to shoot their vintage southshore wedding!

 And then Kim told me she had Vicki from Posh Beyond doing her décor and I was thrilled. YAY for fun vendors!!

 Mike & Kim really wanted a relaxed affair with candlelit ceremony and cocktail reception. Not your traditional seating, not even a traditional ceremony (they gave kids candy!! BRILLIANT idea to keep them still). They kept their bridal party very small and personal. The maid-of-honour was her sister, and the best man? Well it’s Kim’s grandpa. And when they told me that, I fell in love with Mike.

 And just when I thought these two can’t possibly get any cuter….MIKE SANG …..at the ceremony, like when people were walking down the aisle, even when Kim walked toward him, you know to become his wife. He sang to her. I cried my face off. And totally felt jealous and gave nick a look like ‘why the hell don’t you sing to me?!?” (And as a side note, Mike is a fab singer. Usually when I hear people tell me they sing in a band, I inwardly cringe, thinking sure you do. I’m picky about music, but I’d totally buy this guy’s CD. Seriously – sign him up for the voice or something.)

This is one of the most sweetest, intimate weddings I’ve ever been too, and so much fun.  We had so much fun, thanks for having us there!

Ash + Lyss {Barrie Engagement Session}

Ashlee totally knows I’m stressing out as I write this. I beat myself up every time I write a blog post, and it’s even harder when you know the people.

You know those friends you have that you don’t have to say much too ever? For instance if a waitress is uber happy you can both look at each other and know you’re both making for of her in your head. No words exchanged whatsoever. Or like you have lunch with them 3 times a week and both sit on your cell phones the entire time and neither one of you judges the other. That’s me and Ash and so because of this I feel like I don’t need to write a blog post. I can act one out for them later. With music, and crazy hand gestures and interpretive dance and maybe some miming. So for the rest of you who LOVE my stories that accompany the pretty pictures we take, just know that there is a great story here, I’m just too lazy and tired to write it and because these two are my friends I can get away with it.

Enjoy these photos – and please share with your friends using #teamgayrocks. Why? #becauseashleelikestooverdothewholehashtagthing

Amanda + Jason {Grey County Engagement Session}

Typically when I am organizing the photos to blog I drop them in Blogstomp and name them after the city we took them in. For this particular session, I had no idea where the heck I was. So I decided on Grey County Engagement. Because I know I was somewhere In Grey County – I passed a sign that said so.

Sweet Amanda had drawn me a map and scanned it to me. I still couldn’t tell you where I was. I came in some back way (over 3 Grey Road 12′s – seriously – how  many Grey Road 12′s can there be?!?) from Meaford after our Tutu Mini Sessions a few weeks ago. We had the GREATEST weather ever for Tutus and I was stoked to meet up with Nick and go shoot this engagement session after.

Sky started getting a bit darkish while we were driving in the wilderness in the middle of nowhere. But I kept thinking positive thoughts. As we arrived at Amanda and Jasons home (which is super fab and also in the middle of nowhere) I started to get excited -so much nature – this was going to be a great shoot. Then I got out of my car, and about 3840389438 mosquitos ate me alive. Sweet Amanda to the rescue with bug spray:) Honestly we have the best brides ever.

We did a few shots around their property, and apparently Jason really wants people to know he lives here:

We took a few more photos around the property and then we heard thunder.

 Then we decided to boot it to the other location, his parents property. We all get in our cars, and we follow them down their long driveway just as Nick notices they have a flat tire. Like really flat. Soon as he honks to let them know, the sky opens up and instant downpour. At this point I should have taken a photo of how ridiculous it was. Instant puddles, Mud everywhere – and poor jason had to go get the other car. After a game of switching cars and parking theirs on the side of the road, we were soaking wet and on our way.

We decide to re-book the shoot, and in the time it took us to find a date that worked for both of us, it stopped raining. We said the hell with it, and ran back outside, and I’m so glad we did. We had lovely light, pretty fog and I love these photos. Thanks for being troupers guys!!

Vanessa + Derek {Bradford Engagement Session}

I was going to name this post “the day I almost died” but figured that was a bit bleak for a happy occasion.

We met these two a few months ago, when we booked their wedding. They both grew up in Bradford (Derek seemed a bit familiar to us) but they are much younger than Tanya and I  (cause we’re soooo old). We were playing around with different ideas for their engagement session, when Vanessa emailed us about the Lookout in Bradford. I said I’d drive down and take a look at it. So I did, I took a quick trip down the 20th side road, and even though at that time everything was still dead (no green at all) I knew it was going to be a good location. Little did I know that I should have ventured further in down the look out path.

The week of their engagement session we were a bit worried as the green was slowly popping out but not as quick as we were hoping. Spring took forever to get here this year. But we started their session at Derek’s place and there was tons of green, and they both looked HOT so I knew we were in for a good session.

We then ventured out to a family members Barn, where we had pretty light and were so excited about the session.

And then we went to the lookout.

Right outside the opening there was a dead animal. No biggie, I noticed when I went to check out the location and had assumed it would have been moved. We’re across the street doing some cool shots with a broken fence and I’m freaking out about steping on ‘Parts’ of the animal while everyones laughing at me. I’m also envisioning snakes in the tall grass. I’m having full blown panic attack at this point. I should point out however that the location was pretty awesome and those photos are some of my favourites.

Then we start walking down the path/boardwalk to the look out. This is how much I liked it:

At this point, several things were going on in my mind:

1. I hate bugs, swamps and weird noises going on in swamps

2. Not a fan of dead animal parts

3. Why is the boardwalk sideways? Seriously felt like I was In the labyrinth and David bowie was gonna pop out any moment.

We get to the look out. I take my time making my way up, while they all laugh at me. My only saving grace is Derek is also afraid of heights. But he mans up and gets some great shots there.

I wont even stand up. I do this:

And then I get this great idea of shooting down on them. We stay up, and the couple stand below us. And then I hear a Wild Boar. Full blown panic attack again, though I have to shoot through it. I was super happy when we lost light and had to get the heck out of there.

All in all I really love these images and even though it doesn’t sound like it, I really had a lot of fun with these two  -and so did Tanya.

Hope you enjoy your peek guys!

Tessa + Phil {Barrie Maternity Portraits}

Remember Tessa & Phil? We shot their engagement photos around this time last year, and then photographed their wedding as well. They were one of our faves, and we get a LOT of wedding requests for Nottawasaga Inn because of their blog post.

They are now expecting a baby!! Another one of our past brides is having a baby and we have the honour of documenting it! So far this year, we have photographed  Shaunacey, Kate, Lauren, Tessa & Sarah’s baby bumps – and I think there are a few more expecting (If I’ve forgotten anyone I’m sorry – I blame mommy brain)

I was very excited to hang out with Tessa and Phil for an hour last week – Tessa is one of the most photogenic people I’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph. And how hot is she preggers? Phil makes me laugh – especially when I say ‘nuzzle in and kiss her neck” and he kisses the completely wrong body part. Ahem.

Onto the photos – enjoy the peek!
